On December 7, 2009, the Arvada City Council voted unanimously to adopt the Olde Town Arvada Station Urban Renewal Plan. The new urban renewal area would surround FasTracks’ future transit stop in Olde Town and would enable AURA to plan and prepare for the arrival of the commuter rail. AURA’s focus will be on implementing the existing Arvada Transit Station Framework Plan, which was developed after numerous public workshops, steering committee meetings, and was adopted by the Arvada City Council.
On October 4, 2010, the Arvada City Council adopted the first amendment to the Olde Town Arvada Station Urban Renewal Plan. This amendment added a 5,000 square foot parcel located at 5600 Olde Wadsworth Blvd., to the urban renewal district. This parcel contains the historic A.L. Davis Building. The building changed hands in 2010 and underwent a complete historic renovation. This building is considered one of the most significant in Olde Town and both City Council and the AURA Board felt that it was important that the Urban Renewal Authority participate in its historic preservation.
The Olde Town Arvada Station will be the “heart” of the Gold Line stations, providing the full range of land uses imagined in a Transit Oriented District (TOD). Please see the attached Transit Station Framework Plan for the concept plan for Olde Town. The plan creates a defined center with two distinct downtown mixed-use development districts: Olde Town and New Town. The two districts provide an increased mix and variety of uses to attract more people to the Olde Town area. Selectively intensifying and diversifying land uses in the immediate vicinity of the station, along with pedestrian friendly street improvements will encourage walking within Olde Town and the transit station.
