Environmental cleanup:

Challenges and unexpected issues come with any project that includes environmental cleanup, which is the case at Ralston Commons. The 1960s-era shopping center was blighted and accumulated millions of dollars in deferred maintenance while attracting crime.

AURA worked with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to address 30-year-old dry-cleaning contamination on a small portion of the property.

AURA has worked with its partner, Loftus Development, since 2015 on significant improvements to the site, including:

  • Cleaning up more than 5 decades of environmental contamination
  • Demolishing 150,000 square feet of vacant and outdated buildings
  • Moving overhead electric power lines underground
  • Installing the Ralston Road streetscape, with safer detached sidewalks, trees, and landscaping
  • Replacing the water, sewer, and storm-sewer utilities
  • Developing the Shops at Ralston Creek
